Life can be stressful.
Job security is gone, inflation is out of control, global politics are a mess, and every time we turn on the television or pick up the newspaper, it seems like the world, as a whole, has gone crazy. So if you find yourself feeling anxious or stressed, you are by no means alone.
A little bit of stress from time to time is normal.
However, when worries and fears begin to control your life, stress has been given too much power. Many people live in a state of stress that can wreak havoc on the body, mind, and spirit. You probably know the many physical dangers of stress: heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, gastrointestinal problems, Alzheimer’s, accelerated aging, and even premature death.
Why Do You Need a Coach to Manage Stress?
People under stress often believe that the mind and body have an endless supply of energy they can continue to draw upon without costing their health. According to Dr. Herbert Benson of The Henry-Benson Institute, “between 60-90% of health care visits are related to Mind/Body stress–induced conditions.” One way that emotional wear and tear can increase health risks is by suppressing immune function. The Immune system is made up of organs, cells, and tissues that provide the body’s natural defense system. To maintain optimal health, it’s imperative to proactively implement stress management strategies on a daily basis, rather than react after signs of imbalance appear. Once stress-related symptoms occur, you’ve already overdrawn your health account.
